This book describes the psychopathology and treatment of adult children of alcoholics (ACAs). It discusses family dynamics, the effects on the child's development both in the early and later years, the ACA as parent, the etiology and dynamics of psychopathology in the ACA, therapeutic strategies, and implications for the mental health professional dealing with ACAs. Develops a model of pathology for ACAs and outlines therapy strategies.
About the Author:
STEPHANIE BROWN, PhD, is the Director of the Addictions Institute in Menlo Park, California. She also founded and was a director of the Alcohol Clinic at Stanford University Medical Center. An internationally recognized expert on the treatment of alcoholics and their families, Dr. Brown is a licensed psychologist with nearly 25 years of clinical experience, a researcher, consultant, and frequent lecturer in the field of alcoholism. She is the author of Treating the Alcoholic: A Developmental Model of Recovery, also available from Wiley.
