New York City: a place teeming with life, and death. A place of temptation and greed. A place of endless possibilities and choices. A place where a highly decorated homicide detective finds herself at the crossroads of her entire future. Selena del Varone is this detective, a woman respected and liked by all who work with her, even the head of the city's FBI Organized Crime unit, Monte Hall, a man who has the difficult task of telling her news about her family that leaves her reeling. And hers is a Family with a capital F: her father is the head of the most powerful Mafia Family on the east coast, a first among equals. Her younger brother, Nicky, is a business genius who could have become anything he wanted and chose to follow in his father's footsteps. Even Frank, a brilliant lawyer and like another son to her father, has chosen to follow the Mafia's code of justice versus the letter of the law. This is her family, and for years, she has maintained a distance from them, her own moral code and ethics making it impossible for her to condone what they do. But then there is the information Monte shares with her: the murder of her beloved Nicky, and suddenly, this moral and ethical and law-abiding woman is tested as never before. Loyalty turns her life upside-down. Treachery churns a need to avenge. The difference between justice and the law forces her make a decision, a choice that will forever change the course of her life. Selena del Varone is a woman with the strength, intelligence and guts to lead what no other woman has ever led. Here is a woman with the courage to turn her back on who she thought she was to accept the woman she was destined to become.

About the Author:
Susanne Jaffe is a former New Yorker who was a long-time editor and executive in publishing, specializing in developing 'new voices' in fiction. Fifteen years ago she moved to Columbus, Ohio where she still lives, to become the executive director of Thurber House, a nonprofit literary center. She recently resigned to concentrate on her writing, which she loves. "La Patrona" and "Her Mother's Daughter" (also available as a CreateSpace trade paperback) are her two newest print and digital novels. Four older books are now available as e-books from Amazon. Check them all out on her website: www.susannejaffe.com. Susanne considers herself above all a storyteller, someone who wants to engage readers on a journey with characters they can relate to, in situations that capture their imagination. She is an avid movie-goer, dog lover (especially pugs and Boston terriers), and is a fan of old time rock 'n' roll. Most of all she loves to read and write. Her novels are stories about contemporary women who find themselves in situations of emotional, psychological and occasionally physical jeopardy, and who discover their own inner strength to become the women they are destined to be: Cinderella stories with an edge. She would love to hear from you so visit her at: www.susannejaffe.com.
