Four very different stories from the author of ‘Bunco’. The 8:03 George is frantic to be on time for the 8:03. What can be so important that he comes close to a complete breakdown when it seems he’ll be late? And who is sending early morning text messages to his gorgeous young wife? The Girl He Left Behind Young love blossoms between an unlikely pair of star cross’d lovers during World War I. In this tale, that might be true, individual lives play out against a background of epic struggles. 18B What happens when you force total strangers to invade each other’s personal space – and then subject them to all manner of stress? Normally, nothing much; we do it every time we fly in a plane. Sometimes, however, things do happen. A Cold Dish This tale confirms that, while revenge is indeed a dish best enjoyed cold, there can be lots of heat in its preparation.
