Gerald R. Lynch, a lifelong son of the Midwest, addresses the unique character and outlook that make the Midwest and its people so distinctive. Jerry’s thoughtful lyric poetry addresses issues of life’s meaning and the passage of time. His stories, essays, and narrative poems take you on a literary journey that includes a near-tragedy while a youth growing up on a farm in Kawkawlin, near Bay City, Michigan; to Escanaba and a concert by its municipal band; to the “back of his land” and a reflection on the changing seasons of Michigan; to a ghost ship on the Great Lakes; and many other people and points of interest along the way. You’ll make an important stop in Iowa to learn from the life of Frances Kinzie Lynch, a determined, cheerful farmwoman and mother who worked on the first computers, in a World War II shipyard and became a tireless advocate for small farmers. All in all, Jerry offers a fascinating and varied take on the lives of people Making Good in the Midwest.

About the Author:
Gerald R. Lynch was born in 1942 in Bay City, Michigan. Except for a brief period when his family moved to Oregon, Jerry spent his formative years on the family farm in Kawkawlin, just a few miles from Saginaw Bay. After graduating from T. L. Handy High School, he served his country for three years as a Cold Warrior in the U.S. Army in Germany. Upon his honorable discharge he returned to the Midwest and pursued education first at Delta College and then at Michigan State University, earning a degree in criminal justice. Jerry continued to make Michigan his home, serving as a police officer in Williamston and Farmington Hills from 1972 until his retirement in 1998. Jerry has two grown children, Phil and Bridget. He now resides in Bay City with his wife, Karen, just a minute’s walk from the Saginaw River.
