Issue #139 of The Journal, the second issue to be published by the Houston Archeological Society in 2018, does not have a specific theme, but contains ten papers about various aspects of Texas archeology covering the Paleoindian, Archaic, and Late Prehistoric periods, as well as two papers on archeological methodology. The first paper by Josh Farrar discusses the history and growing use and application of remote sensing in archeology. This is followed by eight papers on general Texas archeology which are presented in chronological order beginning with a description of a Late Paleoindian Scottsbluff point from the Woods Springs site in Liberty County. This article is followed by two papers dealing with Early Archaic material from the Upper Trinity watershed in North Central Texas. The first paper discusses the occurrence of Calf Creek Horizon dart points (Andice, Bell, Calf Creek) from the region and this is followed by a description of a hitherto unpublished dart point type tentatively called the Wheeler Leaf. This point type was originally discussed by W. W. Crook and R. K. Harris in the 1950s but a complete point description was never made until now.Following these articles is a series of papers dealing with Late Archaic to Late Prehistoric subjects. First are two papers by Tim Perttula and Brad Stephens describing two “out of place” ceramics; a Caddo vessel from a site in Hood County and Taos Incised Ancestral Puebloan jar from Falls County. Next is a paper by Gus Costa and Tim Perttula documenting the occurrence of rare clay beads across Texas. This is followed by two papers by Dub Crook on unique lithic artifacts from Southeast Texas – the Harvey or Mineola Biface and the Perkin Pike. Last, is a paper by Josh Farrar describing the current methodology used to search for and locate shipwrecks off of Galveston Bay.
