Book First Edition
Hardcover. Condition: Good. No Jacket. C E Brock (illustrator). 1st Edition. Bound in original stiff gilded vellum. Over 70 extra illustrations added along with attributions to Hugh Thomson, 1891. Not content to paste only to the rear of the 20 Brock plates, an enthusiastic previous owner has actually pasted over some of the text in numerous places rendering it necessary to have another copy of the book available for reading. This makes for a truly unique copy for the ardent Gaskell fan. Probably because of the added illustrations the spine has been reinforced with black cloth tape, and the book is thus sitting firmly within its binding. Will provide further details/ photos if you have interest.
