This British clergyman served as Bishop of Norwich (1837-49). ADS, 1p, irregular 4" X 2 3/4" tipped to larger heavy album leaf, n.p., n.y. [between 1837 and 1849]. Very good. Front portion (only) of an envelope, addressed in an unknown hand to C.K. Murray, 5 Whitehall Place, London and boldly signed by Stanley in brown ink at lower left as "E. Norwich." Attractive.

New Edition. Printed in Great Britain. A good full dark blue leather hardback in a full leather prize binding from 'Parmiter's Foundation School', with prize label dated to 1892 to front pastedown. There is also an upside down blank prize label on the rear pastedown (presumably placed in error). Gilt armorial and border to front cover with tooled gilt spine, raised bands and burgundy morocco title label. Some shelf wear, rubbing and scuffing to covers. Spine and extremities are darkened. Marbled endpapers and marbled edges to text block. Soundly bound. Light foxing to blank endpapers, and with scattered spotting elsewhere. Illustrated with engraved drawings throughout, and with a frontispiece image of 'Magpie Hawking' opposite title. Text in English. xii + 420pp. Dimensions: approx 186mm high x 129mm wide x 28mm deep. Green cloth over boards, title and decorations stamped in blind and gilt onto boards and spine, 12mo (6-3/4 inches tall), pp. xi, (xii) blank, 480, 4 (ads), colored endpapers, engraved frontis, charts, line drawings and engraved illustrations throughout. Volume with both boards worn, toned at edges and completely off - but present, back strip is chipped, toned and laid directly down onto spine, pencil scribble to ffep, p.o. neat signature at top of title page, text block is worn at edges but clean, tight and complete. Uncommon single volume (4th) edition, with only 8 copies located in OCLC. A very useable copy, even with both covers off.
