Illustrated frontispiece and all the drawings within the pages (both within the text and full-page) have been drawn by Kate Elizabeth Olver. Dark red coloured textured stiffened card covers with gilt coloured titles to the back strip. Gilt tint to the top text block edge. Dark red coloured place marker in situ, with quite noticeable fraying of the end. The author's selection of poetry for children with illustrations drawn by Kate Elizabeth Olver. Rubbing of the book edges and panels with some bumping of the corners. Tanning of the text book edges which also shows some marks. Age toning of the pages. There is some foxing to the first few and last few pages of the book; with foxing to the textbook edge also present. The hinge has cracked between page 96 and 97  please see photograph. There is a school prize plate fixed to the free front end page (and a little to the free front paste-down)  Mont Albert Central School  Girl Dux Prize dated 1942; the prize plate has disassociated from the front paste-down, again please see photograph. The Suicide Club short stories were first published in 1878 and feature Prince Florizel of Bohemia and his offsider Colonel Geraldine  who infiltrate a macabre club whose membership wish to take their own lives. Included in the book are two other stories  A Lodging for the Night & The Sire De Maetroit's Door. The book is definitely showing its age. Rubbing of the book edges and of the panels. Quite noticeable rubbing of the back strip with the top quarter inch missing  please see photograph sunning to the book panels with tanning of the text block edges and age toning of the pages. A little rusting of the staples that hold the book together. Foxing to the first few in last few pages of the book. Size: 12mo (standard paperback). Early edition. Original green cloth with gilt titles to the spine and upper board and a gilt illustration to the upper board, in dustwrapper. Illustrated throughout with colour plates and black and white drawings. A very good copy, the binding square and firm, the edges a little rubbed, the spine tips a touch faded. The contents are bright and complete with a previous owner's bookplate to the front free endpaper, name to the pastedown, spotting to the text block edges, faint foxing throughout, and three of the drawings having been subtly hand coloured with watercolour. Complete with the price-clipped dustwrapper, lightly rubbed at the extremities, toned to the spine and flap folds and with a couple of tiny short closed tears to the head of the spine. There is a small moisture stain in the top left corner of the front board. The base of the spine is a bit bumped. Endpapers illustrated in green and blue. Seven illustrated color plates. In a price-clipped dust jacket, with small tears to the edges, five of which have been backed with tape. The spine of the jacket has faded. Introduction by Laurence Alma Tadema. This edition is illustrated by British painter Kate Elizabeth Olver (1881-1960). Olver studied art at the Royal Academy Schools. In the realm of illustration, she is most known for her illustrations for "A Child's Garden of Verses.".

Hardcover / original, illustrated publisher's cloth with gilt lettering and ornament on spiena and board. Excellent, firm condition with only minor signs of external wear. The binding a little faded. Interior excellent with only two or three signs of foxing. All the colour-plates in place and in excellent condition. Sprache: english.

This copy has been gorgeously preserved by its retained box, also in a vivid indigo shade. 9.25'' x 7.25''. Original full indigo leather stamped in pictorial gilt. Top edge gilt. Blue silk ribbon bookmark. In original publisher's indigo box with pictorial paste-on. Pictorial endpapers. Four color plates and additional black and white illustrations by Olver. 191, [1] pages.
