Hardcover. Condition: Near Fine. Dust Jacket Condition: Fine. 1st Edition. This is one of those books that you pick up in order to take a quick glance at it and find that, an hour later, you are still glancing. At least, if you have any interest at all in the great British eccentric that was Quentin Crisp you do. The book is made up of a series of anecdotes, reminiscences, interviews, reviews and articles contributed by a cast of the great and the good on the topic of QC. Contributors include Ronald Harwood, George Melly, John Hurt, Harold Pinter, Julian Clary, Adam Mars-Jones, James Kirkup, etc. Illustrated with full page color, and black & white, photographs. Inserted are two cuttings: one a picture of David Hutter's portrait of Crisp, the other a page from Britain's "Sunday Telegraph" of November 28th, 1999 featuring an interview with Crisp done by Giles Brandreth a few days before the stately homo died. There's a hint of browning to the edges, otherwise a fine copy in fine dust jacket.

Hardcover. Condition: Fine. This book claims to explain the true heritage of the Holy Grail and reveal facts about the early Pendragons, allegedly royal ancestors of King David and Jesus. The author draws comparisons between the scripture and the documents from which the Old Testament derived. This book looks to be controversial, as Gardner seeks to show, amongst much else, that Moses was actually the pharoah Amenhotep IV/Akhenaten, was married to both Queen Nefertiti and his sister Miriam, and fathered Tutankhamun; and that the pyramids of Egypt were constructed with the use of anti-gravity powder which the Sumerian, Egyptian and Hebrew kings and priests were well familiar with, and which was the basis of alchemy. Whether you accept his conclusions or not, Gardner, who claims a number of titles in esoteric chivalrous societies, presents a host of astonishing ideas in this book. With illustrations. This is a 1st edition hardback with its dustjacket in fine condition. (316 pages & 20 pages of introduction & 16 pages of illustrations).

Hardcover. Condition: Near Fine. Peel had been planning this book for several years, but alas begun writing it too late - he died half way through. Fortunately Sheila 'Pig' was so close to her husband that she has no problem whatsoever completing it in a way that is still incredibly satisfying; she seems to have shared many of his friends and experiences so very little is lost to the world. Despite the number of claims in publishers blurbs, not many people actually achieve the status of legend in their own lifetime. Fewer still actually deserve that status, John Peel is the exception which proves that rule, a Great Briton whose contribution to British culture is undeniable, without whom popular culture would never have become popular Beloved by millions - whether for his unstinting championing of musical talent on Radio 1 or for his wildly popular Radio 4 show 'Home Truths' - this is the astonishing book he began to write before his untimely death in October 2004. It talks of his early life from childhood to manhood through to 'National Service' and then onto radio. Illustrated with 32 pages of photography. A 1st edition hardback, with its dustjacket in near to fine condition-'D.J' a little creased. (420 pages).

Soft cover. Condition: Near Fine. 1st Edition. First Edition-First Printing with correct number line. 1.2 x 9.2 x 6 Inches; 329 pages. Clean unmarked copy. THE FIELD OF BLOOD is the first in a projected five book series featuring Glasgow reporter Patricia 'Paddy' Meehan. In THE FIELD OF BLOOD, it's 1981 and Paddy is eighteen, working as a 'copy boy' for the Scottish Daily News. She has a finance and is part of a tight knit Catholic community. A horrific story hits the newspapers when a toddler is found murdered. The police arrest two young boys and it turns out that Paddys fiance is the cousin of one of them. Paddy refuses to use her inside knowledge about the boy to write a story and get her first break as a journalist, as she knows what her family would say. However she misguidedly confides in one of the few female reporters, Heather Allen, who then steals the story. The repercussions of that act ruin Heather's life and drastically alter Paddy's future.Paddy does some snooping around and provides an alternative explanation to what the police say happened but they refuse to listen. Interspersed amongst Paddy's current fight against a miscarriage of justice, is the story of the real Paddy Meehan who was jailed for murder and then pardoned after a campaign by Ludovic Kennedy. THE FIELD OF BLOOD starts off quite harrowing as the death of the toddler is carried out but after that it becomes an easy read. It's a long book but the story and the large font help the pages fly by. The whodunnit/mystery angle isn't particularly strong as Paddy manages to solve the case with ease but is unable to make anyone listen. The enormous strength of the book is the portrayal of Glasgow in the '80s and the religious discrimination, lack of jobs and the poor housing situation occurring at that time. In addition there is excellent characterization especially with Paddy 'leaping off the page' and her colleagues, 'Father' Richards, Dr Pete and Heather Allen also leaving a strong impression.
