Stewart (1843-?) was born in Pennsylvania, served in the Union Army during the Civil War, and rose to the rank of Lieutenant Colonel. After the war, he settled in Wichita, Kansas. This book is an account of a trip to Europe he made with his wife and son starting in May 1887. After visiting Great Britain, they visited Palestine, and journeyed into Egypt as far as the pyramids. Lacking original paper wrap covers, though portion with title "Kansas" has been affixed to the front of the library binder. Paper is a little aged, and there are scattered chips and light edge wear. There is a one inch tear at the top of the title page with old tape repair. In addition to an overview of the state's resources, there is an alphabetized list of most of the counties with one page of information dedicated to each.
